Faith and Healing: How Spiritual Wellness Can Impact Your Health
Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13 (NKJV)
One of the most powerful ways that spiritual wellness can impact our health is the hope it gives us for the future.
The Bible promises us that God has a plan for us (Ephesians 2:10), and He uses every situation to work good in our lives (Romans 8:28). Being aware of this truth gives believers strength and joy to live life to the fullest, despite their current circumstances.
Here are two other ways that faith can lead to healing in our lives.
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV)
It's natural to feel afraid when faced with uncertainty, especially when it comes to your health. However, when fear is left unchecked, it can grow out of proportion, and in many cases, instead of being motivated into action, we become paralyzed by dread.
This can cause us to avoid dealing with health issues until they worsen. And if an unexpected health crisis occurs, panic can cloud our minds so that it's hard to make the necessary decisions regarding treatment options and a path moving forward.
Proverbs 3:5-6 famously reminds us not to lean on our own understanding, but instead to trust in the Lord. Believers who take this wisdom to heart can find the strength to push past fear and be proactive in taking charge of their health.
You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You. Isaiah 26:3 (NKJV)
A wide range of physical and mental health issues can be caused by stress, including headaches, insomnia, high blood pressure, heart problems, anxiety and depression.
Stress can make it hard to relax and cause our thoughts to spin out of control, which can lead to us feeling physically and emotionally exhausted.
Financial difficulties, an argument with a loved one, guilt over a past failure, or an overpacked schedule are some of the things that can trigger these feelings.
Jesus tells believers in John 14:27 that He gives us peace and encourages us not to let our hearts be troubled. Paul explains what this means for us in Romans 8, which assures us that since we are forgiven and counted as heirs, nothing can separate us from God's eternal love.
