Daily Blessings We Often Forget to Be Thankful For

The last Thursday in November is Thanksgiving. This is the day we reflect on our blessings and thank God for everything good in our lives. With problems and challenges, it's easy to get caught up in what we don't have and what we wish we could have instead of focus on what we do, but there are plenty of daily blessings we often forget to be thankful for. Consider the following.

Our Health

As we age, our health might deteriorate and we may find ourselves in the doctor's office more often than we did when we were young. Even if you have a few conditions that require treatment, chances are it could be much worse. If you can still make it to the assisted living community workout sessions or card games, for example, consider what you do have and be thankful for your health.

Good Relationships

Whether you have one close friend or a multitude of close acquaintances, you should be grateful for good relationships. Interacting with others keeps your mind sharp, makes you happier and can help keep you in a positive mood through the most difficult situations.

Salvation

Through the gift of faith, we're able to enjoy eternal life. "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16. It's easy to get comfortable in your faith and forget what it was like before you were saved. God provides salvation to anyone who asks, but it's important to not take His grace for granted.

Companionship

A loving and trusting companion is often something difficult to find. If you and your partner are still together after many years, be sure to show appreciation and gratitude consistently.

Stable Finances

If you have a stable income and a comfortable place to live at one of our Bethesda Senior Living Communities, you might consider yourself luckier than many who are struggling to find a home or feed themselves on a regular basis.

Creation

Take time to look around you and enjoy the flowers that bloom, the birds that sing and the surrounding scenery.

With Thanksgiving fast approaching, take the time to jot down a few common things you take for granted that you are thankful for and be sure to include them in your prayers.
