Frequently Asked Questions...
And Their Answers

Q. When is assisted living appropriate?
A. Assisted living becomes appropriate when an otherwise active senior begins having a little trouble getting proper nutrition, maintaining the household or personal care routines, or remembering to take medications. Bethesda Senior Living Communities are staffed 24-hours a day with licensed nurses, medication aides and friendly support staff who together ensure that our assisted living residents have the help they need when they need it. Our affordably-priced assisted living programs provide residents with maximum privacy and autonomy in an attentive and caring environment. Q. Why not a nursing home?
A. Nursing homes are not the catch-all solution they once were considered to be; primarily because most people do not want to be in one. Nursing homes are designed to provide patients with ongoing, intensive medical and nursing services, and to do this well they must be both intrusive and pricey. For seniors whose health has deteriorated to the point where acute medical intervention is required regularly, the cost and restrictive living environment of a nursing home begins to make sense. But there’s a huge stretch of road between retirement and the nursing home! Residents of Bethesda Senior Living Communities enjoy active, independent and productive lives with varying degrees of assistance. Our secure, peaceful campuses allow residents to retire from the crush and confusion of modern life. They can discover their independence, their tastes, their hobbies and their worth, while getting the support they need when they need it. Q. How do Bethesda Senior Living Communities work with someone with dementia (or Alzheimer's disease)?
A. Betheda Senior Living Communities offer specialized Memory Care Communities that develop care programs based on each individual resident. Time is taken to get to know each resident’s history, hobbies, routines and interests, so they can all be knitted into the therapeutic care. Our goal is to slow the decline and assist each resident to realize the greatest amount of lucidity and enjoyment in each day. Our Memory Care Communities are secure with increased staff ratios and family-approved monitoring devices, to ensure the safety of our residents as well as the peace of mind of their families.
Q. Do Bethesda Senior Living Communities charge a flat fee or are there hidden costs and extra fees?
A. Bethesda Senior Living Communities offer a variety of resources and financial options to help assist seniors and their families to be able to afford the retirement lifestyle that meets their expectations. The apartment fees vary by location and floor plans, but they are easy to understand and they are certainly never hidden. The basic apartment rate typically includes: restaurant-style dining, laundry and maintenance, activities and wellness programs, and some transportation. In some locations, utilities, phone, and cable are also included in the basic package, while others accommodate the resident’s plan preference. Residents with cars may include carports or garages for an additional monthly fee in many communities. Some residents within our Assisted Living program will pay an additional fee based on their annual level of care assessment. These fees cover the cost of the additional support their plans require, including: nursing, medication management or administration, bathing, dressing, and other personal services.
