Mission Of Mercy
The vision of Mission of Mercy goes back to 1954, when missionaries Mark and Huldah Buntain arrived in Kolkata (Calcutta), India to serve one year among Kolkata’s poor and needy. The couple ministered for 34 years after their initial commitment. Mission of Mercy was incorporated in 1982 to assist what God was doing in Kolkata.
In the year following Mark Buntain’s death in 1989, Mission of Mercy came under the leadership of Bethesda Ministries. To honor and further the Buntains’ work, Bethesda committed to provide administrative and financial support to the organization. Mission of Mercy’s focus began to expand to other countries, but the intent remained the same: continue to proclaim the message of the grace and redemption available through Jesus while meeting the practical needs of the poor.
Today, Mission of Mercy is working in 18 of the poorest countries in the world, providing help and hope to more than 40,000 children through child sponsorship. Through the monthly giving of individual sponsors, children receive educational support, medical and nutritional assistance, a safe place to learn and grow, and the opportunity to come to know Jesus and the God who deeply cares for them.
